Like a car that just won't start, Campaign 2015 is running on empty, lacking the fuel of real issues to keep the election engine running.

Recently, my longtime friend and college classmate, John David Dyche, authored a column calling for a series of issue-driven gubernatorial debates leading up to this November’s general election. John David’s modest proposal, as he termed it, would have a 75-minute debate hosted in each of Kentucky’s six congressional districts, with each focusing on a singular topic. Here’s a list of things that you wouldn’t want to be called if you were a party leader facing an election in 60 days’ time. Scared. Arrogant. Cynical. Hypocritical. Cowardly. Calculating. High-handed. Feeble. Duplicitous. Undemocratic. Chicken.

English Country: Nigeria

Yet, debates like these are avenues through which the electorate can take direct measure of people seeking their support into elective office. It is one way of assessing the intelligence and preparedness, not necessarily the oratorical abilities, of contestants to public office. The electing public is better advised on how to use their votes through such avenues as political debates.
